Okay I know I'm starting to neglect this place again. Hahaha.
Tomorrow is the last work day of the year! WEE! Off till 3rd of January. But there are so much to do! Like getting books for the new semester, cleaning up my room, online shop stuff, meeting up with friends. Yada yada yada..
It's Christmas Eve! And I'm so BROKE! SANTA I WANT CASH! Thanks! *BIG GRINS*
Work is good. I really enjoy working at Chic Magazine cause it's really what I'm interested in, though I have to take public transport to go sourcing for clothes, steam all the clothes before shooting them, carrying all the heavy items during outdoor shoots, worrying about scratching or staining the products we loaned and did I mention that it is a pain in the ass to carry all the stuff back to the respective shops to return them? Haha. Oh well, even though there are tonnes of stuff that LAZY ME don't like to do but which job doesn't suck in their own way?
There are PROs as well of cause! I get to do styling, writing and sourcing the clothes for shoots. I did the styling for a 2 page feature in Issue10 (The one with Josephine in it!), part of the last minute gift guide, how to spend your bonus feature, shop the sales and I can't remember what else for Issue11. Haha. Psst, I'm currently working on a very interesting one page feature for the Feb Issue (YES BY MYSELF!) and I just wrapped up the Chinese New Year Spread that I did with my superior.
I'm starting school on the 8th and my last day might be on the 6th, Donna (my editor) wants to have a little chat with me to discuss about my internship. Not sure about the outcome but I don't mind working for a couple months more even though the pay sucks. Hehe.
Okay I want to rant about something now.
Today I was out getting lingerie from CK at Paragon, since Banana Republic (Used to work there, quit after one month cause it was THAT BAD!) was nearby I decided to go and visit my ex-colleagues who were still working there. My supervisor, lets call her N, was working and my manager wasn't there. So I starting talking to N for awhile, at first the conversation was like asking how's life, what you're doing now and where I'm working at now. Let me type the conversation we had, it is as accurate as I can remember! No salt and pepper added. Swear!
N: Oh! So where are you working at now?
Me: I'm working at Chic Magazine now as intern.
Then she asks me about my company and talked about some other stuff I can't remember.
N: I know now you guys think working as style assistant very cool and very IN but I tell you don't even consider as a future job option! You need contacts in order to make it big! You will go no where if you don't know anyone.
All I did was nod, smile, some eye contact and saying that I'm just trying for the experience.
N: With big shots like Fong Fan around, don't even think about making it big if you don't know anyone. You know how long those big shots took to build up their current reputation now? Don't even think about being a freelance stylist or working for a magazine.
And then she continued with stuff like good to try for experience but still cannot survive in the industry and how people think it's glamorous to be in the industry. After that I just said I had to go and BYE!
HELLO?!?! Don't you think I know all these? You think I'm 12 years old playing ma sak is it? You guys might think that I'm over reacting BUT I'M SO NOT! Typing the conversation out doesn't have any hint of what kind of tone she was giving me. She was so SARCASTIC and I totally get it that she was shooting me. Saying stuff like "You think it's very cool and in!", like wtf?!
Maybe she was trying to be "nice" and give me advice but NO THANKS! I know what I want to do so don't tell me what not to do and what is best for me. I've heard from A LOT of people that the fashion industry is a DOG EAT DOG world and I'm fully aware of it but it's what I love to do so I'm very determined to do something related to fashion.
Oh and she kept saying that I needed to know people to make it big as if I'm from some kind of village. ERM HELLO? I KNOW PEOPLE! At least more than her, otherwise she won't be still in a retail store being a supervisor after so many years.
Okay I'm sounding REALLY bitchy but I don't care, that was exactly how I felt when she was giving me the "big lecture". I really gave her face by not shooting her in front of her staff and customers.
OH WELL!
I LOVE FASHION! CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT A HEALTHY DOSE OF IT EVERYDAY!
